Reminder: Monday, Dec. 9 is the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation. Since the feast (typically observed on Dec. 8) falls on the Second Sunday of Advent this year, it is transferred to the next day. Catholics must fulfill their Sunday Mass obligation and are obligated to attend Mass for the Immaculate Conception after 4 p.m. Dec. 8 or on Dec. 9.
Mass will be at St. Luke’s at 8:15a and at St. Clement at 5:30p.
This feast is often misunderstood, with many people thinking it refers to Jesus’ birth, but the Immaculate Conception actually refers to the special way — by way of prevenient grace — that the Blessed Mother was born, without the stain of original sin, by the merits of what Jesus would do in the future.
